Introduction

Simple pendulum experiment is a necessary experiment in college basic physics and middle school physics teaching. In the past, this experiment was limited to measuring the vibration period of a small ball under the condition of simple pendulum doing approximately equal period swing in a small angle, generally not involving the relationship between the period and the swing angle. In order to study the relationship between them, periodic measurement must be carried out at different swing angles, even at large swing angles. The traditional method of cycle measurement uses manual stopwatch timing, and the measurement error is large. After the relationship between the period and the swing angle is obtained, the vibration period with very small swing angle can be accurately measured by extrapolating to zero swing angle, so that the gravity acceleration can be more accurately measured.

 

Experiments

1. Measure the swinging period with a fixed string length, and calculate the gravitational acceleration.

2. Measure the swinging period by varying string length, and calculate the corresponding gravitational acceleration.

3. Verify the pendulum period is proportional to the square of the string length.

4. Measure the swinging period by varying initial swing angle, and calculate the gravitational acceleration.

5. Use extrapolation method to acquire accurate gravitational acceleration at extra small swinging angle.

6. Study the influence of non-linear effect under large swing angles.
